What Apple’s mixed reality headset looks like remains a secret, but there have already been some hints about the so-called ‘Apple Glasses. The designer Antonio De Rosa has taken up the topic and, based on previous leaks, has published photorealistic renders of how Apple’s upcoming headset could look.
All signs point towards Apple developing some kind of headset that combines augmented reality (AR) with virtual reality (VR) to deliver a mixed reality (MR) experience. According to Apple specialist Ming-Chi Kuo’s earlier statements, Apple will announce an augmented reality headset as soon as this year. By contrast, analysts from JPMorgan believe that it will be 2022 before Apple unveils anything. Additionally, the same analysts assert that Apple’s first headset will cost around US$3,000. While that may seem steep, Microsoft charges US$3,500 for the HoloLens 2.
The Information recently published an artist’s impression of Apple’s MR headset too, which designer Antonio De Rosa has recreated in numerous renders. In his concept design, dubbed the Apple View, De Rosa has provided a photorealistic look at how the headset could look from multiple angles.
It is unclear how the headset would work, but Apple is believed to have integrated LiDAR sensors in the front of the visor. In our opinion, Apple has been demoing LiDAR sensors on the iPad Pro and iPhone 12 series, probably for something bigger. Ultimately, we doubt that Apple would call its headset the View, but we could be wrong. Nonetheless, the proposed design looks much sleeker than competing headsets.
