Destiny 2 Season of the Chosen has begun, and one of the most interesting features added to the game is the Hammer of Proving. While it may be difficult for Guardians to understand how the hammer relates to the rest of the game, we’re here to break it down for you. Need to know how to equip the Hammer of Proving and where you can find Cabal Gold? You’ve come to the right place.
How to equip and get started with the Hammer of Proving
‘Destiny 2’ Season of the Chosen brings the Hammer of Proving to the game. Below, we explain how to use it and how it relates to Cabal Gold. ‘Destiny 2’ is available now on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC and Stadia.
Before we get to our explanation of how the Hammer of Proving works, you may be wondering how to equip it, as its in-game description reads “the Hammer must be equipped to acquire Cabal Gold.” As long as you’ve earned the hammer from the campaign, it’s already primed and ready to go. It doesn’t take up an additional slot and will make itself known the next time you enter the new Battlegrounds Activity. The description suggests there’s some additional step to equip the hammer, but there isn’t.
That being said, in order to make the Hammer of Proving worthwhile in the new Battlegrounds Activity, you first need to slot it with a Challenger Medallion earned by getting 14 Cabal Gold.
Cabal Gold is earned via any playlist Activity, dungeons and Blind Well. The Hammer of Proving can also be upgraded to output Cabal Gold on its own. Simply put, as long as you play through Season of the Chosen, you should acquire a solid stash of Cabal Gold.
What does the Hammer of Proving do?
In simplest terms, the Hammer of Proving is a special item tied to the Battlegrounds Activity that’s responsible for focusing unfocused Umbral Engrams, providing Focused Umbral Engrams directly, dishing out Cabal Gold and other seasonal goodies.
At the end of a run through the Battlegrounds Activity, a bunch of loot chests will spawn. When you open them with a Challenger Medallion in place, you’ll smash your Hammer of Proving to create a Hammer Charge. This Hammer Charge, along with Legendary Shards, is necessary to focus an Umbral Engram. That Engram can then be turned in at the Umbral Decoder to yield the specific type of item you’re looking for. There are three tiers of Umbral Engram focusing to unlock, with each one requiring a different grind to get there. For example, if you want a high-end Chosen Intellect Engram that always yields armor with high Intellect rolls, you’ll need to accrue 500 Super kills. Finishing the introductory Season of the Chosen quest starts you off with five Focused Engram categories based on seasonal items.
How to upgrade the Hammer of Proving
The Hammer of Proving can also be upgraded at the War Table by selecting Hammer Enhancements. These enhancements allow the hammer to drop certain kinds of Focused Umbral Engrams, an increased number of Cabal Gold, and more based on the type of Medallion you’ve chosen to socket. The hammer can also be upgraded to unleash multiple Hammer Charges per chest as well. Unlocking these upgrades requires completing Seasonal Challenges which will be doled out on a weekly basis over 10 weeks. Guardians have the entire season to complete these objectives.
Destiny 2 is available now on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC and Stadia.
